Why is the dongle being retired?

The dongle has outlived its usefulness. What happened?
The new copy protection re-gime will make a number of things far easier for the customer. This starts right with the activation of the software. It will be done online, quickly and easily. Once the software has been activated, it is ready for immediate use. There are no delays. This one-time online activation, used for both stand-alone and net-work licenses, renders the hardware key – the dongle – superfluous.

And what does that mean in terms of flexibility?
Our customers will see an appreciable increase in flexibility. Every user will receive a floating li-cense. In that way individual licenses can be used wherever needed in the network and even checked out, sort of like a library book, for someone to take along and use while working at home. All of this is at no extra charge to the customer.

How will the changeover take place?
Customers will receive an e-mail containing information about the transition, the licens-ing agreement and the activation password. The software is installed as always, from a DVD. The user need only enter the password during on-line activation, making the soft-ware ready for immediate use.

And what happens to the dongle?
We are asking our customers to return their dongles to us. To make that as conve-nient as possible, we will be sending them a ship-ping envelope. We will see to it that the dongles are properly disposed of. If the software is being in-stalled by one of our service technicians, then he can take the dongle with him.
