A piston rod in a crankshaft drive is the connection between the crankshaft or crankpin and the part moving in a straight line, whether it is a crosshead or a piston.

The piston rod is scribed on the larger piston rod eye with a solid state laser of medium power, and then it is broken. This allows it to be custom-fit to the crankshaft.
