Transparent sheet metal production
With a TRUMATIC L 3050 2D laser cutting system (TruLaser 5030 classic) automated with a LiftMaster loading and unloading system, two bending machines (TrumaBend V 170 and TrumaBend V 85) and a TRUMATIC 1000 R punch press (TruPunch 1000), Deckert Laserschneidtechnik GmbH has made a name for itself as a job shop capable of fabricating small lots, prototypes, and single parts in the shortest possible time. In order to utilize the machines efficiently and keep an overview of all current jobs, the company uses TruTops Fab, the control software by TRUMPF developed especially for sheet metal production.
The newest member of the Deckert Enterprise Group is just three years old: Deckert Laserschneidtechnik GmbH in Lüneburg. But this new company already has more than 100 customers, served by ten employees with sales of about 2 million Euros. Conditions were ideal from the start, business manager Joachim Hofbeck admits: "About 70% of our laser parts were initially purchased by Deckert Maschinenbau GmbH, our 'mother company'. So we had solid utilization from day one."
Deckert Maschinenbau has fabricated special devices, machines, and systems for 26 years. An important customer is the forklift manufacturer Jungheinrich, procuring parts for its specialized vehicle construction from Deckert. That was exactly the reason for founding a separate company for laser cutting, says Hofbeck: "For many of these components, laser parts are used which Deckert once had to purchase from external companies. There were finally so many of these parts that the investment in our own laser technology became economical."
Lot sizes between one and 100
In 2004, the decision was made to purchase a TRUMATIC L 3050 2D laser cutting machine (now called the TruLaser 5030 classic) by TRUMPF, which can even work completely automatically at night to handle larger orders, thanks to the LiftMaster automatic loading and unloading system. "Due to the flexibility of the laser tool and the elimination of retooling costs, we can even implement lot sizes of one cost-effectively. The average lot size, however, is usually between five and 100," explains Joachim Hofbeck. Hofbeck relies exclusively on the technology-oriented programming system by the manufacturer for the programming and control of machine tools. "With the TruTops systems by TRUMPF, the ideal match of machine, control and production software is guaranteed. Processes can be handled reliably and quickly, and rejects and material consumption are reduced to a minimum," says the manager, justifying this decision.
